Fire department dispatcher Allison Ford (bottom left) received recognition from the County of Hawai‘i on March 11 for her actions that led to the complete recovery of a patient.

Allison Ford, an emergency dispatcher on the Big Island, received recognition on Monday morning for her quick response in early January. Thanks to her swift action, Winnie Mochida, a resident of Honokaʻa, was successfully resuscitated and made a full recovery.

Ford, a Fire Communications Officer II at the Hawai‘i Fire Department, has been serving the County for almost four years. Her exceptional skills and composed demeanor during a critical incident were recognized with a Certificate of Commendation.

The Office of the Mayor announced on March 11 that Allison exhibited professionalism, empathy, and a calm demeanor upon receiving a 911 call regarding a medical emergency. She carefully evaluated the situation and offered the caller clear, step-by-step instructions on performing CPR. Her skilled guidance over the phone played a crucial role in guaranteeing the safety and well-being of both the distressed woman and the person who reported the incident.

Mayor Mitch Roth expressed his gratitude today as he honored Allison for her exceptional efforts in offering vital support to someone in distress, ultimately leading to a saved life and a relieved family.

“Our dispatchers have challenging jobs that often go unnoticed in our community. I take great pride in being able to share their stories and recognize the important work they do,” Roth expressed. “In our county, we have numerous heroes who wear different uniforms, and I am grateful to each of them for their service and unwavering dedication.”
