Grants obtained by Webb to support non-profit organizations providing legal aid

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (MOCOBIZ) – State Senator Lea Webb successfully secured state funding for non-profit organizations within her district that provide invaluable assistance to individuals navigating the legal system.

Last week, Webb took the opportunity to hold a news conference where he proudly announced the allocation of over $90,000 in state grants.

The Legal Aid Society of Mid-New York, which has an office in Binghamton, will be granted $30,000. Legal Assistance of Western New York, with an office in Ithaca, will receive $17,500. Additionally, $15,000 will be allocated to Legal Services of Central New York in Cortland.

The American Civic Association is set to receive $25,000. Furthermore, Justice and Unity in the Southern Tier, or JUST, will be granted $7,000 to offer supportive services to inmates at the Broome County Jail and their families. These services may include legal advice and other resources aimed at reducing recidivism.

According to Webb, navigating through the courts and bureaucratic government agencies can be perplexing for both working families and small businesses.

Webb explained that navigating the various institutions involved can be quite challenging. He emphasized that the funds he secured, which amount to over $90,000, are intended to be a significant step in addressing the barriers faced.

The American Civic Association plans to utilize its funding to bolster its Refugee Resettlement Program. With five Department of Justice accredited representatives in its ranks, the ACA is well-equipped to offer legal guidance and aid refugees in successfully navigating their immigration paperwork.

According to Executive Director Hussein Adams, refugees from various parts of the globe, including Ukraine, Haiti, and Latin America, are seeking refuge.

According to Adams, refugees entering the United States are ready to work and are filled with enthusiasm, determination, and a strong work ethic. They are eager to earn a lawful income in order to provide for their families.

According to Webb, she not only provides funding but also offers support to organizations by promoting their services during her Community Office Hours events and through legislation.
