Court documents reveal that a 3-year-old grandson’s premeditated murder has led to the indictment of a grandmother and grandfather in west Tennessee.
Amy Brasher, a 64-year-old resident of Saltillo, has been accused of committing first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse in the tragic death of Carson Brasher. The authorities in Hardin County have reported that Carson passed away on December 26th.
According to court documents obtained by USA TODAY, Jeff Brasher, the woman’s husband, was indicted on March 25 on felony charges of child abuse and child neglect.
The couple faced arrest on March 26, just three months after the tragic death of Carson. The arrest came one day after the case was presented to a grand jury in Hardin County, as revealed by court documents.
The couple hails from Saltillo, a quaint town in Hardin County situated on the left bank of the Tennessee River. Saltillo is conveniently located halfway between Memphis and Nashville.
A tragic incident occurred in Michigan where a 5-year-old child lost their life due to the careless handling of a gun. The child was fatally shot after coming across an unsecured firearm at their grandparents’ home. This devastating event highlights the importance of responsible gun ownership and the need for proper storage and handling of firearms to prevent such accidents from occurring.
Indictment charges grandmother Amy Brashar with premeditated murder
Authorities have not yet released the motive behind the killing.
The cause of the child’s death remains unknown, but according to WKRN-TV, court records indicate that Carson was discovered unresponsive at the couple’s residence before authorities declared him deceased.
According to Kimberly Jones, Carson’s mother, the Brashars had legal custody of her son while she was in rehab. She was informed that Carson had slipped in the bathtub and hit his head while under his grandmother’s care.
Neal Thompson, the district attorney representing Hardin County, and Hardin County Sheriff Johnny Alexander, whose agency conducted the arrest, failed to respond to phone calls and emails on Monday.
I reached out to the coroner in Hardin County, USA TODAY has also contacted them.
According to separate indictments, Amy Brashar is accused of abusing Carson and intentionally causing his death, while her husband is accused of failing to protect him from abuse and neglect.
Preventing child abuse is a crucial issue that requires effective measures. One possible solution is implementing stricter regulations for families who choose to homeschool their children.
‘A bright and adventurous soul’
Carson’s family is grieving the senseless death of the young boy, as shared by his 27-year-old aunt, Meghan Pigg, on Monday, according to USA TODAY.
According to Pigg, a resident of McNairy County, southwest of Amy and Jeff Brashar’s home, the little boy was incredibly endearing, and everyone who had the pleasure of meeting him instantly adored him. Pigg reminisces about his playful and jovial nature, mentioning how he had a knack for making people laugh. In just a matter of seconds, this adorable child could brighten up anyone’s day and bring immense happiness to those who had the privilege of knowing him during his brief three years on this earth.
Carson adored watching “Paw Patrol” and his deep passion for outdoor activities was a shining example of his curiosity and vibrant energy, as stated by Pigg on the fundraising page she set up to assist with the costs of Carson’s headstone.
“His aunt wrote that he had a contagious love and a radiant spirit that brought smiles to everyone’s faces.”
