Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) took a decisive step on Wednesday by signing a bill that prohibits the production and sale of lab-grown meat within his state. In his own words, this move is aimed at “preserving our traditional beef industry.”
In a press release on Wednesday, Governor DeSantis expressed Florida’s opposition to the global elite’s agenda of promoting lab-grown meat and insect consumption. He emphasized his administration’s commitment to supporting local farmers and ranchers, highlighting their role in providing high-quality beef. The governor asserted that Florida will stand firm in preserving its traditional practices and ensuring the availability of authentic, locally sourced meat.
The Florida bill, S.B. 1084, prohibits individuals from engaging in the manufacturing, selling, holding, offering for sale, or distribution of lab-grown meat within the state.
“Signing the first-in-the-nation legislation that bans lab-grown meat, Florida is taking a significant stride in the right direction,” emphasized Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Wilton Simpson (R) in the press release.
Simpson continued, emphasizing the need to protect our farmers and preserve the integrity of American agriculture. He expressed his concerns about lab-grown meat, describing it as a disgraceful attempt to undermine our long-standing traditions and prosperity. Furthermore, he firmly believed that lab-grown meat stood in direct opposition to authentic agriculture.
Good Meat, on its website, describes itself as “the first company in the world to sell cultivated meat.” The company expressed disappointment with Governor DeSantis for signing a law that criminalizes cultivated meat in the Sunshine State.
Good Meat expressed its dismay on the social platform X, stating that in a state that claims to value freedom and individual liberty, the government is now dictating what meat consumers can or cannot buy.
According to the post, the new law is a setback for various groups of people. Floridians, who should have the freedom to consume any safe and approved meat they choose, are affected. Additionally, the law negatively impacts Florida’s technology sector, innovators, and entrepreneurs. Moreover, those who are striving to mitigate the severe consequences of climate change are also hindered by this legislation.
