Florida Democrats raise $1.3 million in the first quarter of fundraising

The Florida Democratic Party announced on Tuesday that it has raised $1.3 million in the first quarter of 2024, as reported by The Hill.

The state party reported that it received 5,271 contributions in the first quarter, before the recent abortion rulings by the Florida Supreme Court. According to the party, the rulings resulted in a significant increase in donations, generating tens of thousands of dollars.

The fundraising amount for this year surpasses the highest point reached in the previous year.

“The Florida Democratic Party has achieved impressive fundraising success in the last six months,” stated Phillip Jerez, executive director of the state party. “We have experienced two consecutive quarters with million-dollar contributions, raising $1.1 million in Q4 2023 and $1.3 million in Q1 2024. This strong financial foundation positions us well for the upcoming presidential election cycle as we work towards regaining control of Florida.”

The state party has been struggling in recent years to compete with Republicans who have increasingly dominated the state. However, the latest fundraising numbers provide a much-needed boost for the party.

In the recent presidential election, Florida, which was once known as a prominent swing state, attracted significant attention due to the state Supreme Court’s rulings on abortion.

In one of the rulings, the state’s 15-week abortion ban was upheld, and it was decided that a ban after six weeks of pregnancy would be implemented next month. The other ruling cleared the way for a ballot measure that, if passed in November, would safeguard access to abortion in the state.
