Five people die as FedEx box truck swerves into the path of a vehicle

Tragedy struck in southern Texas as a FedEx box truck careened into oncoming traffic and collided with a vehicle, resulting in the heartbreaking loss of an entire family of five.

The Texas Department of Public Safety reported that the box truck was heading eastbound on U.S. 57 around 8 p.m. CDT, approximately nine miles from Eagle Pass, as stated by KABB-TV.

According to WOAI-TV, officials have reported that a 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe SUV was heading westbound on the highway when it was hit head-on by a box truck. The truck had failed to stay in its lane, resulting in the collision with the SUV.

According to a report by KENS-TV, the individuals who tragically lost their lives in the incident were Jose Martinez (71 years old), Noemi Jimenez Martinez (61 years old), Joanna Martinez (34 years old), and Samantha Martinez (25 years old). Additionally, a 10-year-old girl, whose identity remains undisclosed, passed away while being transported to a nearby hospital.

According to KABB, the driver of the truck sustained injuries and was taken to Fort Duncan Medical Center for medical treatment.
