Early Sunday morning, a suspected DUI driver crashed into the back of an ambulance on the 710 Freeway in Long Beach, resulting in a tragic accident that claimed the life of a woman.
Long Beach Police Department investigators have identified the driver responsible for the fatal accident as 27-year-old Christian Castillas. Castillas was taken into custody on suspicion of felony vehicular manslaughter for allegedly driving while intoxicated. He sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the crash and was treated at a nearby hospital.
At approximately 2:10 a.m., the driver crashed into the rear of a Long Beach Fire Department BLS ambulance and hit the center median on northbound lanes of I-710 near Seventh Street. Tragically, the passenger, who remains unidentified, lost her life in the accident.
