Mocobizscene – In newly revealed text messages, it has been shown that Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis believed she had successfully thwarted the attempt to remove her from the Georgia election interference case involving Donald Trump.
According to text messages acquired by CNN, Terrence Bradley, who is a former law partner and divorce attorney of prosecutor Nathan Wade, informed Ashleigh Merchant, an attorney representing one of Trump’s 18 co-defendants, that Willis expressed joy after her deposition in the divorce proceedings of her boyfriend Wade was postponed last month.
Last month, Merchant filed a motion to disqualify Willis and her office from the extensive racketeering case against Trump and his 18 allies. This motion was made after Merchant learned about the romantic relationship between the district attorney and Wade, who was appointed as the lead special prosecutor for the Georgia case. Merchant, who is representing Trump’s co-defendant Michael Roman, has alleged that Willis used state funds improperly to hire her boyfriend for the prosecution. Willis and Wade, however, maintain that their relationship started after his appointment.
Willis has managed to evade being deposed in the divorce case so far, but she did appear in court earlier this month for a hearing on the disqualification motion. Bradley, who was expected to be a key witness against Willis and Wade, has already testified twice. During his initial testimony, he frequently cited attorney-client privileges, but he was called back to the stand on Tuesday.
Bradley consistently avoided answering Merchant’s questions this week, claiming that he couldn’t remember the answers and couldn’t provide a timeline for when the Willis-Wade relationship started. However, newly revealed text messages, initially reported by journalist Megyn Kelly, demonstrated that he had assisted Merchant in building the case against the district attorney, even though he was hesitant to provide specific information as a witness.
Merchant asked Bradley if he believed their relationship had begun before Wade was hired for the Trump case, which involved the efforts to challenge the 2020 presidential election results in Georgia. Bradley confidently responded, saying “absolutely,” and went on to explain that they had initially met at a municipal court conference.
Merchant assured Bradley that she had taken full responsibility for protecting him. She emphasized that although he did not require any protection, she made sure to keep him out of it.
“I’m so grateful that you’re keeping me out of it,” Bradley responded.
The close bond demonstrated in the texts reveals the tight-knit legal community in Atlanta. According to Noah Pines, a local attorney closely monitoring the case, this incident is expected to have a lasting impact on the relationships between these lawyers.
