Election official in North Country confirms Democrats’ eligibility to switch candidates

Despite early support for Kamala Harris to secure the Democratic nomination for president, the question of whose name will appear on the ballot in November remains unanswered. Plattsburgh, N.Y. (WCAX) reports on the uncertainty surrounding the outcome of the Democratic primary.

According to reports, House Speaker Mike Johnson of the Republican Party is urging the filing of lawsuits, as he believes that the selection of a new candidate by the Democratic Party for the upcoming November ballot is illegal, given that President Joe Biden had won this year’s primaries.

According to the Republican commissioner of the Clinton County Board of Elections, the argument being made does not carry any legal weight in New York state or in all likelihood, across the entire nation.

According to David Souliere, the automatic presidential ballot access for presidential races allows both major parties to change their nominee. This request is typically made after a party convention.

According to Souliere, the primaries held in each state for the presidential primary are essentially like straw polls conducted by each party. He explained that these primaries do not have any legal binding because, ultimately, it is the parties that decide at the convention who to put on the ballot.

According to him, individuals should be able to view sample ballots by September.
