Elderly Man, 85, Located During Thunderstorms in Egg Harbor Township Golf Course

According to a recent news release by the Egg Harbor Township police, Mu Lee, an 85-year-old man who went missing, was finally reunited with his family at approximately 12:20 a.m. on Wednesday, July 17th. The employees at Green Tree Golf Course had reported him missing around 6:45 p.m. the previous day, July 16th.

According to the workers at Green Tree, they expressed concern to the police as they hadn’t seen Lee for several hours. Lee was a regular visitor to the golf course and often played alone.

Employees notified the authorities after Lee’s cellphone and other personal belongings were discovered in a golf cart near the woods. Although he was known to take walks in wooded areas, the fact that his cart remained stationary for several hours raised concern.

In the search for Lee, the Coast Guard, state police, and the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office all worked together, utilizing both air and land searches. Despite the challenging weather conditions of severe thunderstorms, K-9 teams from Egg Harbor Township and sheriff’s offices from Atlantic and Cape May counties courageously ventured deep into the woods to look for Lee.

As additional crews from Atlantic and Camden counties were getting ready to join the search efforts, Lee was found at Hidden Creek Golf Club, which was just a mile away from Green Tree and could only be reached by walking through the woods. Lee shared that he had spent the entire night walking in the woods and eventually arrived at Hidden Creek just before rescuers spotted him.

According to sources, Lee was reported to be “in good health and spirits” despite his ordeal in the sweltering heat and severe storms. However, as a precautionary measure, Egg Harbor Township paramedics transported him to a nearby hospital for a medical evaluation.

The police department expressed their deep gratitude for the response and teamwork that led to the successful reunion of Mr. Lee with his family. In their release, they stated, “Our community came together and persisted until he was found.” The department acknowledged the efforts made by everyone and highlighted the importance of teamwork in achieving such a positive outcome.

The Egg Harbor Township, Scullville, and Bargaintown firefighters promptly arrived at the scene, while the Hamilton Township police provided valuable assistance. Additionally, the department’s dive team remained on standby, ready to jump into action if needed.

During the search, emergency officials were accompanied by Lee’s family and an employee from Green Tree at the course.
