Eyewitness News has obtained a distressing video that depicts a home health aide assaulting a 95-year-old woman in Harlem over the weekend.
On July 21st, the woman who relied on a walker and an oxygen tank for her daily needs was attended by a home health aide. However, during the course of the day, an incident occurred.
Michelle Mitchell, the granddaughter of the victim, expressed the traumatic experience in the following words, “It was one of the worst days of my life. It was horrific, a nightmare that I wish never happened.”
As the ordeal unfolded, Mitchell was able to watch it happen live on her phone despite being in New Jersey, thanks to the cameras installed in her grandmother’s apartment by the family.
Mitchell expressed his disbelief, saying “it was so unreal to me” that one person could physically assault another with such force, as if they were mercilessly beating them down.
According to medical professionals, the victim is experiencing soreness and bruises as a result of the attack, and is having difficulty lifting her arms. There is also concern about the potential development of blood clots.
Medflyt at Home Health Care Agency had dispatched the worker to the residence.
In a statement given to Eyewitness News, the company stated that they are currently conducting an internal investigation, in collaboration with the New York City Police Department, and are fully cooperating with the authorities.
Authorities are currently searching for the healthcare aide worker in question, but as of yet, no arrests have been made.
