On Monday evening, a fire completely engulfed a Denny’s restaurant located in Galveston County. Fortunately, authorities reported that no one was injured during the incident.
At approximately 1:25 p.m., the Galveston Fire Department received a call and sent crews to the Denny’s establishment situated on Seawall Boulevard at 14th Street. Upon arrival, officials reported that the massive blaze had already penetrated the roof. Firefighters were met with a daunting task as they worked to combat the spreading flames.
According to investigators, the restaurant was occupied by individuals at the time of the fire outbreak, but fortunately, no one sustained any injuries. As strong winds carried black smoke, a viewer of ABC13 captured a video that showcased the restaurant being engulfed by the fire.
A video submitted by an ABC13 viewer depicts a fierce fire engulfing the Denny’s restaurant located on Seawall Boulevard at 14th Street, as high winds battered Galveston.
The Galveston Fire Department sought assistance from Hitchcock and Santa Fe firefighters in their efforts to combat the raging flames.
According to Assistant Fire Chief Richie Pearson, the firefighters faced setbacks due to low water pressure and challenging wind conditions. As the fire spread, a commander at the scene took swift action and ordered all fire crews to evacuate the building, fearing a possible roof collapse. Pearson reported that despite the hurdles, the firefighters successfully controlled the fire by 3:30 p.m. At 4:30 p.m., the firefighters were still actively engaged in extinguishing the remaining hotspots.
Pearson stated that the fire spread throughout the restaurant due to the forceful north wind. Unfortunately, Denny’s suffered extensive damage and was completely destroyed. Investigators have not yet revealed the reason behind the fire. Closure of the area is expected to continue until approximately 7 p.m., causing inconvenience to the drivers.
