Despite being separated for over a decade, Danny DeVito and his wife, Rhea Perlman, have managed to maintain a strong and enduring relationship.
In 2012, the actors, who had been married since 1982, made the public announcement of their separation. Despite residing in separate residences, they never went through with the process of getting a divorce. In fact, during a conversation with Andy Cohen in 2020, Rhea revealed that she and Danny have no intentions of formally terminating their marriage.
“Why?” she inquired.
During a recent interview with Fox News Digital, Danny emphasized that he and his estranged wife have no animosity towards each other. In fact, they maintain a close bond, and their top priority remains their family.
“We’re doing really well. We’re happily spending time with our granddaughter, our precious new addition to the family, and we frequently get to see each other,” he happily shared.
The couple has been together for most of their lives. They first crossed paths in 1970, when Rhea was 23 and Danny was 25. Shortly after, Rhea moved into his Manhattan home, and they stayed together until they got married and eventually separated.
“We actually met back in 1970,” he reminisced, a hint of nostalgia in his voice. “Rhea and I have been together ever since, and over the years, we have grown together in ways that words can’t fully describe. It’s like we have this innate ability to understand each other’s emotions without even needing to say a word.”

“We celebrated Lucy’s birthday yesterday,” he shared. “We all came together for a delightful birthday party, truly cherishing the time spent as a close-knit family.”
Danny and Rhea are frequently in each other’s company, and when they are not physically together, they maintain constant communication. Despite any altered dynamics, their bond remains strong. In fact, they recently embarked on a family vacation together.
“The whole family gathered in one place, and I believe that was a crucial element,” Danny elaborated. “Being able to achieve that, regardless of our individual circumstances, is significant. Although we no longer reside under one roof, we manage to stay united in various ways.”
