Joran van der Sloot, the Dutch citizen who became globally notorious for confessing to the long-unresolved 2005 killing of 18-year-old American Natalee Holloway, reportedly sustained injuries last week in a prison fight in Peru, according to The New York Post.
According to the paper, two inmates attacked Van der Sloot, who is currently serving a 28-year murder sentence in the country for the 2010 killing of his ex-girlfriend Stefany Flores Ramirez.
According to Peru’s National Penitentiary Institute officials, van der Sloot will not be disciplined for the fight as he did not start it.

According to reports, he suffered bruises and lacerations during the altercation but was eventually released back to the general population of Challapalca Prison.
An attorney representing van der Sloot had previously expressed dissatisfaction with the conditions inside the facility, referring to it as “the worst prison in the world.”

During the process of pleading guilty in the United States, he disclosed the information about his attempt to extort money from Holloway’s mother in exchange for providing details on the whereabouts of the Alabama teen’s remains.
Van der Sloot received a 20-year prison sentence in the US for his involvement in extortion and wire fraud, which was served concurrently with his charges in Peru.
In 2005, Holloway was last seen leaving a bar with van der Sloot, who was a student at an international school in Aruba at the time.
According to Holloway’s mother, he confessed to using a cinderblock to kill the teenager after she turned down his advances. He is set to be released from prison in 2045.
