Continued problems on dangerous state road uncovered in CBS 42 investigation

The team at Your Voice Your Station from CBS 42 is currently investigating a road situation in Coosa County, Alabama that was previously reported earlier this year and still appears to be ongoing.

In April, Alice Hall received assistance from us in catching ALDOT’s attention to make necessary safety repairs on the roads leading to her home. This was prompted by the occurrence of four fatal accidents over the course of eight years. Despite this, she remains of the opinion that there is still more that needs to be done along AL-9 and AL-115 to enhance road safety.

According to Hall, her mailbox and her neighbors’ front yards suffered severe damage due to another accident.

Pointing out the destruction across multiple properties, Hall indicated, “This is where it all happened. The impact occurred here, causing the vehicle to bounce up before hitting the tides and other objects. You can see that his bumper left scrapes on that particular area.”

In June, Hall reached out to inform us about a recent accident on Alabama 9 that occurred right in front of her residence. Although no one suffered fatal injuries this time, the individual involved in the mishap reported to Hall that he was forcefully run off the road.

According to her, he sustained only minor injuries, but he claimed that it was during his entry into the curve.

Back in April, ALDOT had announced that it would be reviewing safety measures to help drivers navigate the curve on State Route 9.

Hall revealed that he had reached out to ALDOT on the same day of the accident, but was only given a vague response promising to look into the matter. Unfortunately, no further action was taken by the department.

Before more work is done, Hall is determined to prevent any further loss of life.

Hall expressed frustration at the bureaucratic process required to address issues on the streets and highways. Despite paying taxes for this purpose, it seems difficult to get anything accomplished. He questions why tragedies must occur before action is taken.

According to a representative from ALDOT, the area in question currently has no scheduled safety improvements in the works. However, the department is considering adding signs to improve markings in the future. ALDOT has stated that the majority of accidents in this area are caused by drivers speeding or making errors behind the wheel.
