For the next few days, a bustling intersection close to Piedmont Park in Midtown Atlanta will be closed.
Atlanta Beltline, Inc. is currently in the process of building a safer intersection for pedestrians and cyclists who enter the Eastside Trail at Monroe Drive.
Starting Monday, the intersection located right at the entrance of Park Tavern will be closed 24 hours a day until Friday night. Despite the construction, Park Tavern will remain open and accessible to the public.
If you’re a Beltline user or driver, you may need to take a detour route via Kanuga Street to Virginia Avenue NE and Charles Allen Drive NE to 8th Street. This will guide you through your journey in a hassle-free manner.
A new raised intersection is being implemented as part of the project, which will feature additional pedestrian signals, traffic signals, crosswalks, and a plaza area.
Cyclists will soon have a convenient way to access the Eastside Trail. As part of the new development, a bicycle crossing will be added, which will lead to a new entrance to the trail. This will enable cyclists to seamlessly travel from the bike lane on 10th Street directly onto the trail without any hassle.
The closure at the intersection is scheduled to end on Friday, and the construction of the new sidewalk is projected to be finished by September.
City officials broke ground on a new construction project in August to connect the Eastside Trail through Piedmont Park, and Channel 2 Action News was present to cover the event.
