Bus driver for MTA receives recognition as a hero for rescuing a toddler who strayed into a crowded street in Staten Island.

A little boy who accidentally wandered several blocks from home and found himself in the middle of a busy intersection was rescued by a New York City bus driver who is now being praised as a hero for his quick thinking. Utilizing his instincts as a father, the bus driver acted swiftly to ensure the child’s safety.

Peter Warner, an MTA bus driver, was going about his usual routine of driving his Staten Island route on June 19. However, the day took an unexpected turn for him.

Warner recounted the moment she saw a young boy running down the middle of the street without any shoes on, holding an iPad in one hand while wearing only a diaper and a tank top. “I noticed a little boy running down the middle of the street,” she said. Without hesitation, Warner pulled over the bus to ensure the child’s safety.

This was a first for Warner, even though he has been on the job for 13 years.

As the events unfolded, Warner found himself in a pivotal moment, with the cameras on his MTA bus capturing the scene. Acting quickly, he made a crucial decision.

Warner revealed that he took matters into his own hands by blocking the intersection with his bus. He proceeded to exit the vehicle, secure it, and take the baby under his care.

The intersection at Harold and Sunset in the Willowbrook neighborhood is known to get quite busy. The young boy who had wandered into the middle of the street was in a dangerous situation and could have been seriously injured or worse. It is possible that the hero who intervened saved the child’s life by acting quickly and decisively.

Warner observed that if a child were running down the sidewalk, it would be expected that the parents would be in pursuit. However, in this instance, the child was located right in the middle of the street.

When the boy remained silent, Warner took action by contacting his union representative and dialing 911 for assistance. The police soon arrived at the location, but the young boy was insistent on receiving another embrace from Warner, who himself is a devoted father of two.

A passenger on the bus managed to capture the heartwarming moment on camera.

Surprisingly, the boy had strayed four blocks away from home while his father was asleep and his mother was at work.

Warner recalled the heartwarming experience, “I received a warm embrace from her, and she expressed her gratitude multiple times. She also messaged me frequently whenever I shared pictures of my children.” As a result, they became Facebook friends and now share a friendly relationship where she comments on pictures of Warner’s kids and vice versa. “It’s amazing how a simple act of kindness can transform into a beautiful friendship,” Warner added.

Warner’s internal GPS guided him towards doing the right thing, resulting in a fantastic ending.
