Authorities in Alabama have issued an arrest warrant for a woman accused of murder following the death of her malnourished and dehydrated teenage son, who was discovered in a hotel room three months ago. The police have taken this case seriously and are actively pursuing justice for the victim.
Serena Starkey, a 43-year-old woman, has been accused of murdering her 13-year-old son, Aston Starkey, on March 2. The Birmingham Police Department charged her with the crime, as reported by WBMA-TV.
According to AL.com, the child was diagnosed with Down syndrome.
According to WBRC-TV, the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office raised the charges to homicide on June 7th following the presentation of case information by detectives.
According to a report by WIAT-TV, on March 2nd at approximately 7:20 a.m. CDT, the Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service team received a call to attend the Extended Stay America located on Cahaba Park Circle in Birmingham.
According to the television station, the teenager was declared dead after being transported to Grandview Medical Center.

WBMA reported that the medical examiner’s office has classified the teenager’s death as a homicide.
