Mocobizscene- Miami-Dade County authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the pregnancy of an inmate who was being held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
Daisy Link, 28, is currently in custody at TGK on a second-degree murder charge. Additionally, she faces charges of battery by a detainee on a visitor or another detainee, according to jail records.
Juan Diasgranados, the Public Affairs Manager for Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation, informed MDCR staff on December 23rd that the inmate had expressed her belief of being pregnant.
Afterward, she underwent a comprehensive medical examination, which confirmed her pregnancy, he stated.
Diasgranados emphasized that the well-being and recovery of individuals in their custody are of utmost importance. In an email to Local 10 News, he stated, “We prioritize the care, safety, and rehabilitation of all those under our supervision.” He further mentioned that although there is currently no evidence of sexual assault against the inmate, they are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the pregnancy.
Local 10 News received an anonymous tip that Link had become pregnant by another inmate before receiving the statement from MDCR. According to the tipster, the male inmate resides on the top floor, while Link is located one floor below.
According to the source, Link and the male inmate have never laid eyes on each other. However, inmates often communicate with one another through the vents. In a recent interview with Local 10 News, Cody Weddle had the opportunity to speak with Crystal Barreto, Link’s sister. Barreto expressed her disbelief in the rumors surrounding her sister’s pregnancy and called for a comprehensive investigation into the matter.
MDCR has not yet confirmed the identity of the person who impregnated Link or the specific circumstances that led to her pregnancy.
“The Michigan Department of Corrections (MDCR) prioritizes the well-being and safety of individuals in our custody, including pregnant inmates and staff,” assured Diasgranados. “We have comprehensive healthcare protocols in place to ensure that pregnant inmates receive timely and suitable prenatal care, as well as specialized obstetrical services as directed by the Correctional Health Services (CHS). We also provide ample time for postpartum recovery. Furthermore, when determining housing assignments for pregnant inmates, we consult with Correctional Health Services and, if necessary, the inmate’s external obstetrician.”
The report states that Link was caught on surveillance video reassuring the victim, saying, “I believe I hit a major artery. You’re going to be okay.”
The arrest report did not mention a motive for the shooting.
