Police have arrested a 32-year-old woman after discovering a deceased woman in the backseat of her car. The authorities believe that the woman’s death was not caused by the single-vehicle accident that the suspect had been involved in.
According to a statement released on Monday by the Olmstead County Sheriff’s Office, Margot Lewis, a 32-year-old woman, was being attended to by a passerby when the police arrived at the scene of a single-vehicle accident on Interstate 90 going eastbound near the Highway 42 Exit in Olmstead County, Minnesota. The incident occurred at around 7 a.m. on Saturday morning.
According to the police, Margot Lewis, a 32-year-old woman whose residence is unknown, was the driver of the vehicle. She was found outside the vehicle and was being taken care of by a passerby. Upon investigating whether there were any other occupants in the car, authorities discovered a deceased woman in the back seat. The woman was 35 years old, and the condition of her body was deemed suspicious. It was evident that her passing was not due to the car accident.
The authorities successfully identified the victim, but at present, they are withholding the name of the deceased until her next of kin has been informed.
Authorities stated that they transported Ms. Lewis to the hospital via the Mayo Clinic Ambulance Service (MCAS). After receiving medical clearance, she was taken to the Adult Detention Center (ADC) and arrested for Interference with a Dead Body.
According to the Olmstead County Sheriff’s Office, Lewis is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday regarding this case.
The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office expressed their condolences to the family and friends of the deceased, with assistance from the Minnesota State Patrol, Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA), Eyota Fire Department, and Mayo Clinic Ambulance Service during the initial call.
At the moment, the incident is under investigation and there is no additional information available for release.
