The occurrence of the theft of an Amazon Flex driver’s vehicle during a parcel delivery in Newark was captured on camera by a Ring doorbell system. When the SUV was stolen, the driver, Jose Tavares, had the key transponder in his pocket and the vehicle was in motion. According to him, the criminals were donning ski masks and the robbery occurred in an instant.
Newark police returned the vehicle to Tavares the following Monday, but it had been vandalized, destroyed, and one of the seats bore the inscription “EBK Gang.” Tavares, a father of two and spouse, depends on his work vehicle as his primary source of income to support his family. As the vehicle is currently under investigation by the insurance company, he is presently unable to do so.
