According to prosecutors, a parolee has confessed to shooting a man during a prearranged fistfight in Atlantic City.

On Tuesday, July 16, Jawaun Yeoman, aged 27, admitted to second-degree aggravated assault, second-degree possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose, and first-degree unlawful possession of a handgun by a prior No Early Release Act felon. The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office made an announcement regarding the guilty plea on Wednesday, July 17, through a news release.

On Saturday, March 25, 2023, the Atlantic City police responded to a report of a shooting in the vicinity of Sovereign and Sunset avenues. Upon arrival, they discovered a man with a gunshot wound in his lower back. Fortunately, the injury was deemed as “non-life-threatening.”

After the shooting, the men in the group fled the area. In May 2023, Yeoman was taken into custody and ballistic analysis revealed that the same firearm used in the incident was found in his possession.

According to state prison records, Yeoman served over four years for second-degree robbery and was on parole. He was released from prison on Thursday, Apr. 28, 2022, following the robbery that occurred in Atlantic County in January 2017.

Yeoman has been in state prison since Friday, May 5, 2023, after being arrested for the fistfight shooting. According to prosecutors, he is set to receive a 12-year sentence and will have to serve eight-and-a-half years before he becomes eligible for parole.

The sentencing of Yeoman was set for October.
