A new truck is being used by Madison County Schools to train future firefighters

The Madison County Career Technical Center (MCCTC) is taking a unique approach to education this year by incorporating a fire truck into the classroom. Located in Huntsville, Alabama, the MCCTC is making sure their students have access to hands-on learning experiences that will prepare them for their future careers. As a result, this innovative addition to the classroom will undoubtedly enhance their education and provide them with practical knowledge that they can use in the field.

Huntsville Fire & Rescue generously donated a truck to be used for training future heroes in the new fire science curriculum at MCCTC.

According to Heath Jones, the Vice President of Madison County Board of Education, there has been a noticeable decline in students’ interest towards firefighting. This is precisely why he believes that the program holds immense significance.

According to Jones, there has been a noticeable decrease in the level of interest in fire services, particularly among high school students who volunteer. In response to this, they are looking to introduce a program that will encourage more community involvement. The hope is that by doing so, they will be able to provide interested individuals with the necessary training to pursue a career as a firefighter.

Alabama Fire College is partnering with the program to provide an opportunity for students to learn about supplying water through the use of a fire truck, while practicing various scenarios.

As of now, the program has attracted eight high school students this year. Jones is optimistic about the future and plans to further grow the program.

Jones expressed enthusiasm for the chance to introduce new programs, stating, “We’re embracing this opportunity and hoping to expand with additional classes down the line.”
