Moco Biz Scene – On Thursday afternoon, at least 14 people were injured in Long Beach due to a violent crash between a speeding vehicle and a passenger bus.
According to the Long Beach Police Department, the injuries of the victims vary from minor to critical.
At approximately 3:15 p.m., a collision occurred at the intersection of South Street and California Avenue. Security camera footage captured the incident, which shows what appears to be a Dodge Charger running through a stop sign before colliding with the side of a bus. The force of the impact caused the car to be flung in front of the bus, ultimately crashing into a nearby restaurant.
The Charger was completely destroyed when the bus rammed into the side of the building, causing it to lodge into the storefront.
Using the jaws of life tool, firefighters were able to successfully extract both the driver and passenger from the sedan. Unfortunately, on the bus, the driver and 11 passengers sustained injuries from the accident. A total of nine patients were transported to the hospital under the care of paramedics.
The Red Cross relocated at least one of the two individuals who were residing in the apartment above the restaurant.
South Street, which spans from Myrtle to Lewis Avenues, was closed by authorities as they provided medical care to the injured and conducted a criminal investigation.
