According to a report from CBS affiliate WWL-TV, Linda Frickey, 73, lost her life tragically, and the three individuals responsible for her attempted manslaughter have been found guilty. The fourth suspect, a male who is now 18, is yet to face a second-degree murder charge, which could result in a life sentence.
On Monday, the trial for all four suspects was scheduled. Following the guilty pleas of the three girls involved in the case, jury selection began for the fourth suspect who, according to prosecutors, was driving the vehicle at the time of Frickey’s death.
In March 2022, four teenagers were charged as adults for the killing of Frickey. The age range of the accused was 15 to 17 years old. According to the authorities, Frickey died due to blunt force injuries after getting caught in a seatbelt as the carjackers drove away with her car on the afternoon of March 21. The incident was witnessed by neighbors who were unable to help as Frickey was dragged away.
Reporters spoke with Frickey’s family outside the courthouse as they discussed the statements made by two of the defendants.

Jinny Frickey, the sister of the offenders, expressed her belief that they were genuinely apologetic for their actions. “I’m sure they were sorry,” she stated. “When you look back on things, you often regret what you did. But they still committed the offense and must face the consequences.”
During the hearing, The Times-Picayune/The New Orleans Advocate reported that one of the defendants stood before Frickey’s family, wringing her hands in apparent distress. She tearfully expressed remorse, stating that the killing was not their intended goal, and asked for forgiveness from the family.
Kathy Richard, Frickey’s sister-in-law, told WWL-TV that she believed the apology from those responsible for Frickey’s death was sincere. She appreciated their admission of guilt and acceptance of punishment, and hopes that with time, everyone affected can find healing.
According to Richard, the family is seeking the maximum sentence for the fourth defendant.
According to Griffin’s statement to WWL-TV, the car was being driven by him. He further added that the driver stomped on her, and even though all the girls were present in the car, they didn’t take any action to stop the incident from happening. The office of District Attorney Jason Williams has stated that they will refrain from commenting on the case until it is concluded.
The statement acknowledged the exceptional composure of Mrs. Frickey’s family in the face of the comments made by the three defendants who have assumed culpability for their involvement in the dreadful incident. “We stand with the Frickey family, offering our heartfelt support as we strive for fairness and seek a resolution that pays tribute to Linda’s legacy,” the statement read.
Last year’s incident prompted New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell to take to Twitter and share a video that lasted almost three minutes. In the video, she condemned the carjacking, describing it as both “horrific” and “absolutely unacceptable.”
She emphasized the urgent need to tackle juvenile crime in New Orleans.
