Montgomery Public Works Director Chris Conway stated that a shortage of equipment and staff has forced trash pickup schedules to fall behind, adding that many rubbish mounds exceed the 4 foot length and 8 inch diameter restrictions.
“We also do have more routes than manpower would allow if we even had those trucks,” Conway stated.
“The sanitation department has promised that they would pick it up, and they have yet to perform,” Don Harris, an east Montgomery homeowner, said.
Harris and his Merritt Court neighbours have had the same debris piles on the curb for at least a month.
Harris claims that the garbage is picked up on time, but he sees the same mound of trash every day.
Conway stated that sanitation personnel attempted to pick up rubbish on Harris’ street lately but were obstructed.
“There were vehicles blocking that particular area, and we were unable to access that,” Conway explained.
Conway’s reasoning, according to Harris, is “excuses” that do not justify why people have had to wait weeks for debris to be removed from their area.
Every first and third Saturday from 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., anyone with substantial amounts of debris can drop it off at one of 12 Montgomery drop-off locations. Five days a week, the Smiley Court site is open.
