Police report the death of a 12-year-old who was shot in Montgomery a week ago

An investigation into homicide has been initiated following the tragic shooting of a child in Montgomery. According to WSFA, the incident resulted in the child’s death.

According to a police spokesperson, a young girl of only 12 years old was shot in the 4100 block of Keating Drive in the early hours of May 31. She was immediately taken to a local hospital and later transferred to a hospital in Birmingham. However, despite the medical team’s best efforts, she tragically passed away on June 7.

No additional information was disclosed, including any motive or other specific details.

On Friday, a ceremony was held to honor the victim who passed away, marked by a balloon release. The victim was identified by her family as India Knight.

Bria Knight, India’s mother, expressed her disbelief in having to continue living without her daughter.

Bria Knight held a balloon release ceremony at the Chisholm Boys and Girls Club, a place that her daughter considered her second home. According to Knight, she wanted her loved ones to remember her daughter in a place where she was surrounded by love and care.
