On April 25, 2024, at the Alabama Statehouse in Montgomery, Alabama, Senator Garlan Gudger, a Republican from Cullman, was captured standing on the floor of the Alabama Senate, as seen in the photograph taken by Brian Lyman for the Alabama Reflector.
According to a statement released on Sunday, Senator Garlan Gudger, who hails from Cullman and is a Republican, is still receiving urgent care following a jet ski accident on Independence Day. Despite his condition, he was reportedly able to walk down a hallway.
In a recent statement released from the University of Alabama Birmingham hospital, Gudger confirmed that he was airlifted after the accident on Smith Lake last Thursday. The statement further revealed that Gudger underwent surgery to address his internal bleeding and sustained injuries, including three fractured vertebrae, six fractured ribs, and a punctured lung.
In a heartfelt message, he expressed that the road to physical recovery for his family would not be easy but receiving intercessory prayers from friends, family, constituents, colleagues, and even strangers who believe in the power of God’s healing provides them comfort. He conveyed that he needs to concentrate on getting better and will not be able to accept visitors for the time being. However, he was grateful for the outpouring of support and concern from everyone who has reached out to offer help during this difficult time.
Expressing gratitude towards everyone who provided help after the accident, including bystanders, first responders, the flight team, and the medical staff at UAB, was also a part of his statement.
In 2018, Gudger was elected for the first time and then again in 2022 for his second term.
