Dr. David Thrasher will forever be haunted by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Not only did he encounter the first COVID patient in Alabama, but he also witnessed thousands of patients struggling for their lives on ventilators.
Thrasher expressed that the past two years were the most difficult of their life, adding that they lost a nurse to the situation.
According to Dr. Thrasher, even though the initial wave of the pandemic has passed, the risk of contracting the virus remains high, particularly during the summer season. He points out that the absence of school, vacations, and staying indoors are all contributing factors that increase the likelihood of infection.
It is advised by experts to keep a few at-home COVID-19 tests available and to contact your doctor immediately if you test positive. Prompt action is crucial in effectively combating the virus.
According to him, treating this condition within the first 48 hours is highly recommended. He also added that you can still treat it within the first five days, but treating it earlier significantly shortens the recovery time to only about one or two days.
Dr. Thrasher predicts an updated vaccine will be available in the fall. For now, he recommends that only those who are most susceptible get the shot.
“He explained that he highly recommends individuals over the age of 60 to get vaccinated, as they are the ones who are most at risk. While all of his grandkids have already been vaccinated, he is not yet sure if he would recommend this particular vaccine to them.”
According to him, although the strain has undergone several mutations since the outbreak started, the symptoms to watch out for remain the same: cough, fatigue, and a sore throat.
