MONTGOMERY, Ala. – A Montgomery man faces life in prison after being convicted of the murders of two persons just days apart in 2019.
According to Montgomery County District Attorney Daryl Bailey, Elijah Reese, 21, was convicted on Friday of two counts of capital murder and two counts of attempted murder. Sentencing is scheduled for September 7.
The first of these murders occurred on January 25, 2019. Gregory Cole, 47, was shot in the 4500 block of Delray Road, according to authorities.
Reese then allegedly participated in another killing on Feb. 2, 2019, when he and others shot at a car in the 1200 block of Marlowe Drive. Orangeal White, 42, was inside the vehicle with her husband and daughter. The gunfire killed White and injured her daughter, but her husband was unharmed.
Reese was found guilty of one count of capital murder for each of the two victims who perished. According to the district attorney’s office, the two attempted murder charges are against White’s husband and daughter.
According to Bailey and the 2019 affidavit, Reese was detained following White’s death because his social media content and cellphone data led to his involvement.
A search warrant led investigators to multiple guns at Reese’s residence, and they were able to match shell shells from both murder scenes, according to the district attorney.
“I am happy that my office could bring justice to the families of Mr. Cole and Mrs. White. There is simply no place in our community for violent criminals like Elijah Reese, who show no hesitation in taking a human life. My team will push for him to spend the rest of his life behind bars without the possibility of parole as he should never have the chance to terrorize or harm any of our citizens ever again,” Bailey said in a statement.
