Three Houston Men Arrested in San Bernardino ‘Bank Jugging’ Investigation

On Wednesday, three people from Houston, Texas, were taken into custody due to their involvement in a “bank jugging” burglary that occurred in San Bernardino County, California last month.

Criminals engage in a nefarious activity known as “bank jugging”, where they stalk individuals who have just withdrawn large amounts of cash from a bank or ATM.

According to a news release from the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department, the incident occurred on September 30, a little before 11:30 a.m., in the 3000 block of Whirlaway Lane in Chino Hills.

As reported by KTLA 5, deputies discovered that the victim had withdrawn a considerable sum of money from a nearby bank after their interaction.

The victim stored the money in an envelope and placed it inside the glove box of the vehicle. Later, the victim parked the car outside his residence while the envelope with the money was still inside.

Within minutes, three suspects – Byron Butler (32), Anthony Banks (31), and Kendrick Montgomery (19) – reportedly broke into the vehicle, stole the money, and fled the scene in a Hyundai Elantra with a license plate that was obstructed.

During the investigation, the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department’s Chino Hills Station detectives were able to identify the vehicle used in the commission of the crime.

Local law enforcement in La Habra successfully located and detained three individuals in their vehicle on October 4. Detectives from Chino Hills were called to the scene and discovered evidence incriminating Butler, Banks, and Montgomery inside the vehicle. As a result, the suspects were taken into custody.

The victim was trailed by three men as he left the bank and headed towards his home. Once he arrived at his residence, the men seized the money from his vehicle. The authorities believe that the three men are responsible for burglary and conspiracy, and they have been booked at the West Valley Detention Center.

Law enforcement’s continuous efforts to combat criminal activities related to “bank jugging” received a significant boost with the recent arrests. The apprehension marks a crucial development in the fight against such activities and serves as a reminder that law enforcement officials are working tirelessly to prevent such incidents.
