Sheriff: Chemicals caused explosion in Dothan

A tragic incident occurred on Quail Drive in Dothan, Alabama, on August 29th, where several explosions took place. Unfortunately, one man lost his life in the incident, and another was left with severe burns.

Multiple fire departments were able to extinguish the fire that resulted from up to three explosions, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of 78-year-old William Harrison’s life and caused injuries to Robert Kent. Following the incident, an investigation into the cause of the fire was promptly initiated.

At a press conference that revealed the investigative findings, Sheriff Donald Valenza of Houston County explained that the homeowner was attempting to clean the bottom of his pond using chemical compounds. Unfortunately, the chemicals being mixed were highly explosive, and the men created unintended homemade bombs in the process. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the FBI are currently investigating the scene to gather more information.

According to Sheriff Valenza, Kent is still in the process of recovering and receiving treatment for his burns in Atlanta, and the sheriff is eagerly anticipating a statement from him.
