In Harlem on Thursday, a man wearing a mask tried to run away from the police and resorted to punching an officer in the process. However, his attempt was unsuccessful, as he was swiftly apprehended and taken into custody once again.
According to the authorities, the individual involved in the incident was Evan Guerrero, a 45-year-old resident of Harlem.
It appears that he was cooperating with the two officers and had placed his hands behind his head, as instructed, after being stopped on suspicion of involvement in a potential ongoing crime.
Unfortunately, he only managed to reach the curb before stopping.
According to the video footage, Guerrero was quickly apprehended by the two police officers who tackled him to the ground right in front of a nearby convenience store.
Despite losing one of his shoes during the pursuit, Guerrero persisted in his attempt to escape. However, he was eventually apprehended with the assistance of seven additional officers who arrived to provide backup.
As Guerrero allegedly landed a punch on the cop, he could be seen wiping his face where the blow had landed. Despite being attacked, the officer kept his composure and held down his assailant while checking for any injuries.
According to authorities, the police officer suffered from “pain, bruising, and a fracture.”
The police charged Guerrero with assaulting an officer.
Upon his arrest, police discovered that the individual had “graffiti instruments” in his backpack, as reported by the officers.
According to the NYPD, Guerrero has been arrested eight times before for various offences such as making graffiti, possessing graffiti instruments, criminal mischief, and bail jumping.
