Violence in Israel and Gaza puts New York City on alert

The city of New York and its police department are currently on high alert following the recent outbreak of violence in Israel and Gaza. During a press conference, Mayor Eric Adams issued a warning about individuals who have been radicalized online, emphasizing the need to not underestimate these lone wolves.

According to Adams, both the city and NYPD are keeping a close eye on online platforms and websites.

Adams cautioned that some individuals may take advantage of the current situation.

During the press conference held on Tuesday, John Chell, the NYPD Chief of Patrol, mentioned that the police department is keeping a close eye on social media and has implemented multiple layers of security measures to safeguard synagogues and other Jewish houses of worship.

According to New York City Mayor Eric Adams, the NYPD has been instructed to increase their presence in schools and houses of worship to assure their safety and maintain peace in the city. Mayor Adams also mentioned that there will be an increase in police patrols in other important neighborhoods to safeguard all residents of the city.

On Thursday, Governor Kathy Hochul of New York stated that there are no present indications of any active dangers in the state of New York. However, given the tense climate, they will remain vigilant and take necessary measures to discourage any possible acts of violence.

According to The Associated Press, the Palestinian militant group Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel, which prompted Israel to declare war. Sadly, this war has already claimed the lives of at least 2,600 people on both sides since the attack began.

In an email addressed to its students, Columbia University situated in New York City has announced that only individuals with valid university identification will be allowed access to the prestigious Ivy League campus on Thursday.

In preparation for the scheduled demonstrations on Thursday regarding the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict, security measures have been put in place.

According to an email sent by executive vice president David M. Greenberg, the purpose of this measure is to ensure safety and promote a sense of community during the scheduled demonstration.

On Thursday, the campus has been closed to the public, which happened to be one day before the scheduled family weekend set to take place on Friday and Saturday.
