Two people were detained in Coolidge for allegedly dumping young cats on the side of the road

On September 30, a concerned citizen reported to the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office that they witnessed two suspects dumping six young cats along the dirt roadway located on Bartlett Road and Wheeler Road outside of Coolidge.

As per the statement from the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office, both the concerned citizen and the promptly responding deputy successfully apprehended all six animals. The animals were then secured in the back of a patrol vehicle and transported to Pinal County Animal Care and Control for further evaluation.

According to the PCSO, the incident occurred in a remote area that lacks any shade or water sources. It’s highly improbable that the cats would have been able to survive for an extended period of time on their own in such harsh conditions.

The following day, deputies from PCSO apprehended the suspects at their residence in San Tan Valley. The two individuals, identified as Michael Cherry (55) and Monique Cherry (53), were taken into custody and have been charged with six counts of animal cruelty. They were subsequently booked into the Pinal County Jail to await further legal proceedings.

According to the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office, the cats are in great condition and are now up for adoption. The office also assured that the cats will be spayed and neutered before being adopted out.
