Two people hospitalized and manhunt initiated following a wrong-way crash on I-87

The Yonkers police force is working together with the NYPD to track down a suspect involved in a severe wrong-way, head-on collision on I-87 that occurred on Wednesday night.

According to authorities, the incident began with an investigation into a larceny that occurred in Mount Vernon at approximately 10 p.m. After a brief period, law enforcement officers located the male suspect in a Jeep Cherokee that sported Connecticut license plates at the Cross County Shopping Center. It was then that the suspect made the decision to flee in his vehicle, prompting a short pursuit by police units.

According to investigators who spoke to News 12, the perpetrator drove into the northbound lanes of I-87, heading southbound towards the Bronx in the wrong direction.

After the chase, the police quickly ended their pursuit and notified the New York Police Department. They then proceeded to drive down the southbound lane of the Thruway.

As the police entered into the Bronx area, they came across a two-car collision involving a Honda Accord and the car that the suspect was driving.

According to reports, the individual in question made a run for it on foot after the accident and disappeared into Van Cortlandt Park. Despite deploying police helicopters to track him down, the suspect was able to elude capture.

According to the NYPD, a male and female from the Bronx were present in the Honda Accord during the accident. Thankfully, the couple was brought to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx and their condition is now stable.

According to the latest update, authorities are still actively searching for the suspect involved in the incident. Reports suggest that Yonkers police have successfully identified the individual responsible for the crime, but his identity has not been made public yet. The investigation is ongoing, and the authorities are working tirelessly to bring the perpetrator to justice.
