BATAVIA, N.Y. — Following an investigation into reported gunshots, the Batavia Police Department has taken three individuals into custody on charges related to firearm possession and reckless endangerment. It was discovered that a home on Dellinger Avenue had been the target of the shooting, although fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Officers responded to a call made at 11:22 p.m. on Wednesday concerning gunfire in the vicinity of Washington Avenue and Willow Street. While carrying out their investigation at the scene, the police heard additional shots being fired near Dellinger Avenue. On-site evidence at both locations confirmed that a firearm had indeed been discharged. Further assistance was provided by the pole cameras of the Batavia Police Department, which helped in forming a descriptive profile of a vehicle suspected to be involved in the incident. This information was circulated among neighboring law enforcement agencies to aid in locating the vehicle and the suspected individuals, according to the police.
Police found four people, all male, walking in the area of Chase Park and North Spruce streets at around 1:11 a.m. They were taken to a business parking lot on East Main Street, where the vehicle was then located, police said.
All four were taken into custody; one was released, and the other three — Tmario H. Ayala, 20; Bryson R. Gentile, 18; and a 17-year-old — were charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and first-degree reckless endangerment.
Ayala and Gentile were arraigned in Batavia City Court and held on $100,000 cash bail, $200,000 bond, or $300,000 partially secured bond. The 17-year-old was arraigned in Youth Part Court and was held on $25,000 cash bail, $50,000 bond, or $100,000 partially secured bond.
Assistance in the police operation was provided by the Batavia Fire Department, the office of the Genesee County Sheriff, and the Genesee County Emergency Dispatch Center. Helpful information was also received from local community members. Any additional data regarding the shootings is much sought after. Those with such information are urged to get in touch with Batavia City Police Detective Bureau by dialing 585-345-6444 or to anonymously submit a tip online on bataviapolice.org.
