According to the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office, a 2021 Acura TSX that was reported stolen in New York City back in September has been recovered in Paterson.
According to officials, detectives became aware that an individual with a fake identity was attempting to sell the Acura. Moreover, the car had a counterfeit vehicle identification number, further adding to the suspicion surrounding the sale.
According to the sheriff’s office, investigators found out that the Acura had made its way to Paterson on Tuesday. Upon spotting the vehicle, detectives proceeded to conduct a traffic stop and apprehended the driver, who was identified as Sergio Del Jesus Dias Ramirez.
In an effort to decrease the number of stolen vehicles in the county, Sheriff Richard H. Berdnik has stated that this investigation was conducted.
According to a statement by Bednik, the theft of vehicles not only affects the owner of the stolen car but also results in increased rates for all auto insurance customers. This criminal behavior indirectly victimizes all those who have auto insurance policies.
Ramirez is currently facing several charges, which include the possession of a vehicle with an altered VIN and receiving stolen property.
