A woman from Rhode Island is currently facing some concerning charges.
Detective Sergeant Theodore Georgitsis reported that at around 1:00 p.m. on Monday, the patrol officers were dispatched to Samuel Avenue following a 911 call.
According to reports, there were suspicions that a child had been thrown onto the road. Upon arriving at the scene, law enforcement officials were met with a domestic dispute. Apparently, a woman had physically assaulted the father of their shared child. A third person tried to intervene but ended up being assaulted by the woman as well. Witnesses at the scene claimed that during the altercation, the woman had thrown her own child onto the pavement. These allegations were supported by both eyewitness accounts and surveillance footage.
Elba Monteiro, a 26-year-old resident of Pawtucket, has been taken into custody for several charges including 1st-degree child abuse, domestic simple assault, domestic disorderly conduct, and simple assault.
Currently, the young toddler is undergoing medical evaluation for injuries sustained at Hasbro Children’s Hospital.
After appearing in 6th District Court, Monteiro was arraigned and a bail of $25,000 with surety was set.
