Man from Montgomery guilty of illegally obtaining gas station shooting ammunition

A Montgomery man with a previous felony conviction was recently found guilty of possessing ammunition during a shooting incident at a gas station in Montgomery, according to U.S. Attorney Sandra J. Stewart. The announcement was made on Friday and reported by WRBL.

In a recent development, Maricas Rondell Taylor, a 40-year-old resident of Montgomery, has been convicted by a federal grand jury for unlawfully possessing ammunition. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Georgia confirmed this news on Thursday.

According to court records and evidence presented during Taylor’s trial, on September 30, 2022, Taylor and their cousin went into a gas station located on West Fair Avenue. It was discovered that Taylor’s cousin had been banned from the gas station prior to their visit.

Upon entering the gas station, the cousin was promptly informed by the clerk that she could not be inside the store. This news did not sit well with Taylor, who became visibly upset and engaged in a heated argument with the gas station clerk.

Following the dispute, Tayler made a swift exit, only to come back after 45 minutes to confront the attendant once again. On his second visit to the gas station, the security camera footage revealed that Taylor took out a firearm from his pocket and fired multiple shots at the clerk.

Thankfully, the clerk managed to seek refuge behind the counter, avoiding getting hit by the bullet. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, a thorough investigation into the incident led to the discovery of several shell casings at the gas station.

After analyzing the shell casings found at the scene of the incident, the jury concluded that Taylor was guilty. They discovered that the ammunition used in the shooting belonged to Taylor and was in his possession during the crime.
