Secretary of State of Alabama releases official statement regarding the presidential election

Alabama Secretary of State Wes Allen issued a statement in response to President Biden’s announcement that he will not run for re-election.

According to Alabama Code Section 17-14-31, political parties must submit their Presidential and Vice-Presidential candidate certifications to the Secretary of State’s office by August 23, 2024. The lawfully submitted party certifications will be certified by the Secretary of State’s office on August 28, 2024. It’s important to note that there are no provisions in Alabama law that allow political parties to withdraw or replace their Presidential candidate once they have been certified.
