Phenix City: 3-year-old injured after allegedly shooting himself along Crawford Rd

PHENIX CITY, ALABAMA – The Phenix City Police Department is looking into the shooting of a 3-year-old on Crawford Road.

Officials said they responded to the area of Crawford Rd. and US Highway 280 at about 9:15 p.m. on July 7 in regard to a person being shot.

When police arrived, they found a 3-year-old child with a gunshot wound. Authorities say that the kid was riding in the back seat of a vehicle when he apparently acquired access to a pistol and shot it, wounding himself.

The Criminal Investigations Division arrived and began an investigation.

The child was brought to Piedmont Columbus Regional Hospital and then to UAB Hospital in Birmingham. At this point, the child’s injuries are in uncertain condition.
