Investigation underway by Prattville police following a deadly drive-by shooting

PRATTVILLE. AL – Police are currently investigating the first homicide of the year that happened on Sunday afternoon due to a fatal shooting.-

According to Mark Thompson, the Police Chief, his team received a call about gunshots fired at around 2:15 p.m on Covered Bridge Parkway. Upon arrival, the officers discovered the victim lying on the street.

Officials have not yet released the identity of the 16-year-old male who tragically lost his life due to a gunshot wound. According to reports, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene, as confirmed by Coroner Buster Barber. Our hearts go out to the family and loved ones of the young man during this difficult time.

It is still unknown what could have prompted the shooting incident. However, based on the evidence gathered, it seems that the victim was simply strolling down the street when the gunfire erupted, possibly from a vehicle that passed by.

If the evidence remains strong, it is possible that capital murder charges may be brought forward. According to District Attorney CJ Robinson, this decision would most likely be made following grand jury proceedings.

“We are still very much in the beginning stages of the investigation,” he said. “But we go where the evidence takes us. Any charging decisions will be done after discussions between my office and the Prattville Police Department and will be supported by the evidence.”
