Family of Alabama resident who drowned in Hawaii seeks funds to repatriate his remains

A man born in Alabama, who affectionately called himself “Ocean” and “Wavy” due to his fondness for water, tragically drowned in Hawaii on Sunday. His family is now raising funds to bring his body back to his hometown of Mobile.

LaTonya Sigler, who set up a GoFundMe page for her brother, Octavian Sigler, 26, confirmed that he was born and raised in Alabama but was residing in Hawaii at the time of his tragic drowning on Sunday.

Octavian Sigler was discovered deceased in the waters off Honolulu by a bystander, as reported by his sister.

According to LaTonya Sigler, he relocated to Oahu in 2022 as reported by Hawaii News Now.

According to the outlet, she shared that upon his entrance, one could immediately feel his vibrant energy. He possessed an outgoing and loving personality and was often described as sweet by those who knew him well.

According to her, he chose to go by the names ‘Ocean’ and ‘Wavy’ due to his affection for the water. She further explained that this was a reflection of his personality.

Sigler set up a GoFundMe page to ensure that her brother, Octavian Sigler, could be laid to rest in Mobile, his birthplace and hometown, with a proper “homegoing celebration.”

The goal of $10,000 set for the crowdfunding effort has been exceeded.
