Alabama: woman and daughter accused of chainsawing and  putting grandmother on the grill; Stay Alert

A mother and daughter from Maryland are suspected of murdering their grandmother, dismembering her with a chainsaw, and then attempting to dispose of her remains on a barbecue grill.

Candace Craig, 44, is accused of murdering her mother, Margaret Craig, 71, and then enlisting her daughter Salia Hardy, 19, to help dispose of the body.

On Friday, Prince George County Police officers conducted a welfare check and were assaulted with an unpleasant stench of decomposing human flesh.

They uncovered “what appeared to be brain matter” in open trash bags at the Landover property, as reported by WJLA.

The mother and daughter are now in arrest and face murder charges.

Candace is suspected of murdering her mother during an incident on May 23. Salia was then supposedly summoned to vanish her grandmother’s remains. They were kept in Candace’s bedroom in a blue bin.

Grandmother Margaret Craig, 71, left, was allegedly murdered, dismembered and grilled by her daughter Candace

Apparently, the bloodbath was sparked by the matriarch’s threat to report Candace for fraudulent credit card use.

“Defendant 2 [Salia Hardy] stated that the Decedent threatened to report her daughter, Defendant 1 [Candace Craig], to the police for fraudulent use of her credit card. Defendant 1 then attacked the Decedent,” the court documents stated.

The murder took place only nine days after Mother’s Day. It wasn’t the same as Mother’s Day 2022.

Candace posted on Facebook at the time: “Happy Mother’s Day to the number one woman in my life. I hope you have an awesome and peaceful day. I don’t get to say this everyday but I love you very much to the moon and back.”

Candace Craig answered the door on Friday during the welfare check and allowed officers to examine her home.

Cops immediately “recognized the smell of putrefaction and observed blood and tissue on the floor near three white plastic trash bags” in the basement of the home. A knife was found on the floor, a chainsaw was recovered, cutting utensils were found, and cleaning materials were scattered around.

A lot of blood was splattered around the basement.

‘The detectives of the Homicide Unit will ensure a thorough investigation is conducted and that both suspects are held accountable for their cruel and criminal behaviour,” said Maj. David Blazer is the commanding officer of the major crimes division in Prince George’s County.

Candace Craig is charged with murder in the first and second degree.

The cops are charging her daughter Salia Hardy with accessory after the fact.

There’s a preliminary hearing scheduled for July 3. She is being held without bond.
