A man from Steens was killed in a car accident on Sunday

COLUMBUS, Miss. – A 25-year-old Lowndes County man was killed in a car accident on Sunday morning.

Matthew Hall of Steens was identified as the victim by Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant.

According to the coroner, Hall was driving on Sand Road when he lost control of his vehicle and smashed into a tree.

The wreckage was discovered just after 6 a.m. by an off-duty sheriff’s officer, according to the coroner. He believes the collision occurred some hours earlier.

A neighbour reported hearing a loud noise at 2:00 a.m. but saw nothing and went back to bed, according to the coroner.

Sand Road connects Columbus and Steens.
