A non-fatal shooting that occurred on Saturday afternoon in Hybla Valley has led to the arrest of a 14-year-old boy, as reported by the Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD). According to authorities, a call was received at around 5:00 p.m. regarding a gunshot victim in the 7400 block of Vernon Square Drive. Police immediately responded to the scene.
Upon reaching the location, law enforcement officials discovered a 19-year-old male victim who had sustained a gunshot wound. The injured party was immediately transported to a medical facility where he received treatment for his wounds, which were determined to not be life-threatening.
According to FCPD, the victim was on his way to a nearby apartment when a 14-year-old boy approached him and pulled out a gun, shooting him. Fortunately, no one was injured when a nearby residence was struck by the incident. However, the suspect, who is only 14 years old, fled the scene. Law enforcement officials do not believe that this was a random occurrence.
After conducting a thorough search of the vicinity, law enforcement officials were unable to locate the perpetrator. However, the suspect was later identified by the police, who subsequently reached out to his mother. Upon the arrival of the officers, the suspect was not present at home. However, the suspect’s mother brought them to the Mount Vernon Police Station later that evening for further questioning.
Charges of Malicious Wounding and the use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony have been brought against a 14-year-old boy. Currently, he is detained at the Fairfax County Juvenile Detention Center while the firearm remains unaccounted for.
