According to a report by Wavy News, the Elizabeth River Ferry III, a crucial part of history, marked its 40th year of service in April of this year. However, the unique transportation experience provided by the ferry for Hampton Roads Transit is coming to an end as the boat has been put up for sale.
According to the auction listing the vessel measures 65 feet in length, 22 feet in breadth and 6 feet in depth with a gross tonnage of 57 and a net tonnage of 45. The boat is powered by two Volvo Penta Diesel Engines and features a 1200-gallon fuel tank
The reason behind the sale of the ferry remains unknown. However, it is set to depart from its current port by Dec. 19 and will be sold to the highest bidder through a public online auction.
