Coney Island car wash fire sends firefighters to the hospital

Two firefighters were hospitalized after a 24-hour car wash in Coney Island caught fire overnight.

At approximately 1:30 a.m., authorities report that a fire broke out at the Express Car Wash, which operates 24 hours a day. The cause of the fire remains unknown, but it ravaged the entire building, causing the front façade to collapse from the top. The sidewalk was covered in debris as a result.

At approximately 3:30 a.m., the fire escalated to two alarms before it was finally extinguished. According to the car wash employees, they were present inside the establishment when they heard what seemed like a minor explosion.

The employees suspect that the cause of the incident was electrical, but an investigation is still ongoing to determine the actual cause.

According to the FDNY, two firefighters sustained minor injuries and were promptly taken to a hospital. Fortunately, no one else was harmed in the incident.
