After a few hours, a police standoff was finally resolved on Tuesday morning, resulting in the arrest of a man who was accused of assaulting a woman in her own home.
According to a news release by Sgt. Jake Becchina, a spokesperson for the Kansas City Police Department, officers were summoned to respond to a domestic violence attack at around 4 a.m. in the 3600 block of East 46th Terrace.
According to Becchina, a woman reported to the police that a man had assaulted her in her residence. The authorities were able to identify the suspect and discovered that he had an outstanding felony warrant and could potentially be carrying a weapon.
The officers provided assistance to a teenage boy who was present inside the house and helped him leave the premises without any harm. However, the man inside the residence declined to evacuate.
The authorities decided to maintain a safe distance from the home as there was a possibility that the suspect might have been carrying a weapon. To prevent him from fleeing, the police surrounded the area. A team of tactical officers and peace negotiators were also called in to assist with the situation.
Around 9 a.m., the male suspect voluntarily came out of the home and was apprehended without any trouble.
The inquiry into the incident of domestic assault is currently in progress.
